Just Wear a Mask

I believe in the gathered church – whether digital or analog. There is movement in the Biblical practice of Jesus’ followers gathering together.

Lately, I’ve heard the comments both first and second hand, “I’m not coming back to church until I don’t have to wear a mask.” Personally, I struggle with this statement. We live in a locale that requires masking in public buildings. Why not wear them? The excuses given vary from personal choice to politics.

Please hear my heart as a pastor. Don’t let a masking policy keep you from gathering in the local church. I wear a mask when I’m sitting or standing on the floor in the service. I do unmask to teach, and I did unmask last weekend when I led in the dedication of my fourth grandchild. Several hundred people mask to be a part of the gatherings each week. While masking may be new to us culturally, it is a normal part of other nations’ daily routines.

I can’t help but feel the enemy uses the masking mandate to rob people of the incredible gathering experience. Don’t make this a political issue, personal rights stance, or church persecution claim. Don’t let the enemy steal your opportunity.

So, to put on the prophet’s voice (my kids call it Dad’s big voice), you need to get back to church, even if you have to mask. Everyone needs to put on their big boy or big girl pants and get over it – really. There is no good excuse to stay away because you have to wear a mask. Put it on and show up, you’ll be glad you did.

Hope to see you Sunday. Don’t forget to RSVP.
